Muskox

This animal was introduced to Nunavik in 1967. At that time, a small group of 13 females and 3 males from Nunavut were raised in a pen near Kuujjuaq. The main goal of this project was the production of wool. Their wool is more resistant and eight times warmer than the wool of sheep. This breeding turned into a project to introduce the species into the wild. From the 54 animals released at the time, the population is now estimated at 7000 heads. However, the official inventory is not yet published.
